Internal Conflict- in literature and drama, a struggle which takes place in the protagonist's mind and through which the character reaches a new understanding or dynamic change
External conflict-
in literature, a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force
Corrie Internal-
1. She is afraid of war. She doesn't know if her country will go to battle against German forces. She knows that if there is war that many people will die. She doesn't want it to happen and is reasurred when her country's leader assures the country that it won't. She becomes worried when she suddenly wakes up to bombs in the middle of the night. Then she realizes that her country is going to war and that it can't be stopped and that the Nazis will takeover. This happened only 5 hours after the leader announced that the country will not go to war. It eventually gets solved by the U.S. defeasting the Nazis but it doesn't happen for a while.
Corrie External-
2. She's worried about the Jewish people. She wants them to be safe because she believes everyone is a child of God and by hiding them in her own home she knows that she might be killed and they will surely be killed if they are found. She started taking them in when she started working for the underground Holland. She was very worried that she might be found out so she started doing drills to make sure the people could become hidden in less than two minutes. Also this all ends when WW II is over.
Father Internal-
1. He is worried about the war. He knows that his country is going to get caught up in the war. He also realizes that more people are losing faith in God. People come to him asking him to pray for them and their loved ones. He doesn't want his country to get stuck in the war. He is also very welcoming of the Jews that he hides in his home. He treats them with extreme courtesy though.
Father External-
2. When Christoffels gets hurt by Otto, Father gets extremely angry. He yells at Otto saying how he should be ashamed but Otto just leaves without a word. Father kicks him out right away because Christoffels is a very quiet man who is shy and would'nt stick up for himself. But father was also worried when he found the knife under Otto's pillow. So they started taking carfeul mesasures on him.
